Working hard in the classroom everyday is a given in our classroom! Fourth grade learning is challenging and pushes us to the limits of what we think we can do!
When it is time to take a well-earned break, this project will encourage us move around and PLAY together. Learning and creating rules and boundaries is an important part of fourth grade. Our school has two basketball hoops, 2-square and 4-square courts and a large grassy field to play on.
This school year, we are trying to incorporate 20 additional minutes of PLAY into the daily schedule. During this time, we will look to be outside as much as possible.
Students will be able to take the soccer balls, footballs, cones and frisbees outside to the field to organize games. The basketballs and playground balls will be used on the blacktop for pick-up games. Four square and basketball are definitely the most popular recess games with our students and these items will allow them to continue these games during our brain breaks. We have an active student body and they are always asking to borrow materials from the PE teachers when we go outside. This project will allow us to have our own materials and get the students moving faster!
There is a lot of research that shows how important movement and play are building a successful education. This is especially true for students with special learning needs that require more breaks to sustain attention! Being able to provide students with opportunities to move around and get fresh air will surely have a positive impact on their learning! We can't wait to see the results for ourselves!
