The students of today are motivated more by technology and games then anything else. When you place something that includes both in their hands they are hooked and begin to excel. Using Osmo includes both the technology and game components, but will have a major impact on reading, math and thinking skills. I added the coding game to challenge my more gifted students' problem solving abilities. The pizza game gets students to use math in a real world way by running a virtual pizza shop (skills required include money, fractions)- it also has the social component built in.
If funded these systems will be used on a daily basis during both literacy and math stations. Students will have the ability to either work independently (some of the time) or with a partner in an academic and meaningful way. The project says it will touch 22 students this year, but don't forget these will last many years touching hundreds of students (with more games and components added I am sure)!
