After doing a weaving lesson with my 5th graders, I feel like I've finally found a lesson that gets EVERY student fully engaged! This type of artistic medium is a hands on process that is fun for everyone and allows for a lot of creative freedom. The repetitive over-under process of threading the colorful yarn through the loom is be a meditative and relaxing break from their normally rigid and highly structured school day. This type of art does not require the conventional artistic skills that drawing and painting do, which is why every student is successful!
With these supplies, students will be able to explore various cultures that are known for their weaving processes while creating their own authentic versions.
Thank you for helping me share this beautiful and functional art form with my students!
