I teach an amazing group of Special Education Self Contained Students. They come to school eager and excited to learn. Each of my students are struggling readers who are at levels at least a year and a half behind grade level. They have a difficult time decoding words. As a result they can become discouraged, frustrated, nervous, and anxious which can lead to meltdowns. These students have been together for many years which has helped us become a family. Daily they encourage, help and support each other. As a teacher it is my job ensure they are cared for, listened to, motivated, encouraged, empowered, safe, respected and happy. They are taught to believe in themselves and accomplish anything they put their minds to. My classroom is a place where they feel safe to ask questions and ask for help when they struggle. I am there to support them and create a love for learning. The kids know "Just because something is HARD doesn't mean you shouldn't TRY; you should TRY HARDER.
