Students needs a classroom environment that is engaging, safe and fun! Some like to work on their desk, some enjoy working on the floor. Research shows that students with flexible seating increases self regulation and are more engaged. Other strategies that increase engaged learning with students with learning disabilities is hands on activities, physical movement/kinesthetic breaks, high visual/visual intense curriculum, and sensory regulations fidgets. In addition to academic multi-sensory learning, it is important for students to understand their emotions and learn how to appropriately implement coping strategies.
A strength based classroom is a place where students with all sorts of labels comes together as equals to form a new type of learning environment -- Thomas Armstrong. Using the students strengths in mind is my greatest advantage when working with students in the fully self-contained classroom.
About my class
