My students are striving readers that are enrolled in the READ 180 curriculum. This curriculum is a balanced literacy approach to fast-paced reading improvement. One element of the program includes adaptive technology assistance. The students are required to read passages into the microphone to monitor fluency. The students receive instant feedback, and are able to correct and move forward. Many of my students are living in high poverty areas and possess limited vocabulary. Reading ability is highly indicative of future success in college and career readiness. In the past, I have purchased inexpensive headphones with my own money, unfortunately they did not prove durable enough for every day use. If this grant is funded, I will be able to use this adaptive technology for students while I lead small group instruction and conference one-on-one with each student, causing minimal disruption.
