Research shows that students basic needs must be met before they are able to learn and retain new skills.
In order to promote social-emotional development, meet sensory needs, and improve self-regulation, I am utilizing this grant to improve our sensory/motor space to share among our population of students with special needs. Whether they need a change of environment to re-regulate their emotions, sensory stimulation (physical/gross motor movement) or depravation, or simply a quiet, safe space, students needs will be better addressed with a new motor swing and soft flooring, bean bag chairs, sensory and calming fidgets, sand timers, noise machine, and soft lighting. Depending on their need, students will be taught to select resources that meet their individual needs.
By donating, you will not only help to meet the social, emotional, and sensory needs of students with special needs, but you will ultimately help to set them up for academic success.
