My students attend an elementary school in a community that is highly impacted by poverty. Our students are also from many different language backgrounds and require specialized English language instruction each day in addition to their typical classwork. Many students do not have consistent and concrete learning opportunities outside of school and third grade is the transitional year in which students start using their reading skills to learn new information.
While our families and caregivers want to be involved in their children's education, it is not always possible for them to provide both the financial support and volunteer time commitment our school needs to be truly successful.
