Physical distancing requirements have made it tricky for students to learn and play together. Teachers around the country are rising to the challenge, coming up with creative ways to support ALL of their students in collaborating with their peers in a safe manner. STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art, and math - activities are particularly challenging. Placing special attention on collaborative interactions across these five critical learning areas is more important than ever.
The goal of this project is to provide my students with individual sets of materials - STEAM kits - that may be used during lessons and instruction, physically-distanced partner and small group activities, and independent exploration. These individualized STEAM kits will allow students to design together, while safely engineering structures with their own Legos and other building materials. The dual-sided graphing whiteboards may be used for these projects, and will also allow students to more fully participate during math lessons, small group work, and interventions.
My hope is to support my students as they continue to learn and collaborate with their peers in creative and alternative ways. I'm confident these STEAM kits will help make this possible!
