I teach 9th grade English Language Arts in the Bronx, NY. Being in ninth grade means being brand new to the high school experience. To set my students up for a successful 4 years in high school, I work hard to identify engaging, creative ways to deliver the English Language Arts curriculum.
My 9th grade English Language Arts students are kind, hard working, and responsible scholars. At our school, 99% of the students are racial minorities, and 79% receive free and reduced lunch. Additionally, 14% of our student population receive special education services, and 8% are English Language Learners. To best support this diverse student body, it is imperative that our teachers are creative in identifying ways to differentiate our instructional practices and routines. My students would greatly benefit from the opportunity to receive supplies and experiences to assist them on their paths to success.
