The items, picked out by the students themselves, will be used as incentives to encourage and motivate students to work toward meeting their daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals. At the beginning of each week, we set goals and discuss our intentions for the week. The students have chosen the rewards and incentives they would like to receive after meeting their goals.
When students are caught doing the right thing, it increases their chances of meeting their own personal goals. When incentives are attached to individual goals, students are motivated and work hard to reach them. When students are motivated to learn, it increases the chances of appropriate behavioral responses, active engagement, and participation during instruction, leading to increased academic performance. The items will help implement our behavior incentive program (designed by the students) and will allow students to receive the support and positive motivation needed to be successful.
