In our busy days, full of learning, in first-grade, there is often very little time for our students to play. However, this is a vital aspect to their development. I have asked for many different types of materials that will help provide some time for learning through play. These materials will allow students to play, explore, learn, work together, problem solve, and enjoy learning.
My energetic class will have daily opportunities for hands on learning with the games, toys and supplies that have been requested!
I can't wait to get these items into their hands every day. Every morning, as the students enter my classroom, they will be greeted by a morning work tub. Rather than paper and pencil activities, as has been my go to, they will be able to play for the first 20 minutes of the day. They will have sensory items, building materials, arts and crafts supplies, reading activities, science activities and math activities. I am hoping that these activities will also help with tardiness, as students will want to arrive on time to school for such a fun morning activity!
They will play in groups of 3 or 4 with the items given to them. This will allow for opportunities of social interaction, working together to create something, solving a problem and having fun. These are all things that they don't otherwise get a chance to do during our busy day. There will be guide sheets if they want to follow them, but it will not be necessary. The point is that they are playing, which every child needs to do!
