First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by and reading about my project, I know that you have many worthy choices. My wonderful 7th and 8th grade students are eager to have some hands on science labs, however our glassware and equipment is at least 20 years old and these tools have been used and 鈥渓oved鈥 by 10000+ students during this time. I am hoping that by providing our science students with some new glassware it would allow each student to have hands on practice with graduated cylinders, beakers, thermometers, and scales. Students would use the laboratory tools to improve their understanding of the metric system, which has been a struggle for my students. With addition of beakers, thermometers, and hot plates students will have better chance of working individually (without sharing with the whole class) with each tool and they will become better prepared for high school and their future education. With the new science standards we would like to incorporate more STEAM/hands on activities. We are looking to have students get excited about real life science and build roller-coasters and study energy (Kinetics and Potential) and motion and forces using the real life examples. For that reason we are asking for the insulation pipes, marbles, and masking tape. These tools would help our students build a roller-coaster, and see motion and energy in action. I am hoping to bring real life examples to my classroom, to engage students in critical thinking, engineering and troubleshooting all while learning about exciting topics of physics. In order to have as much time as possible, the crates and plastic drawers would be used to get our projects organized by period and ready to STEAM!!
