My students are low income, inner city students. At this age, they come to school with a love of books. I want to show them as many books as I can. At first grade, students use between 7-10 books a day and trade books twice a week. This allows them the freedom to quickly pick and choose the books that most interest them. This process allows them to find the genre that most interests them and read on their level.
