Students learn to read by taking letter sounds, putting them together to create words, and then putting those words together to create meaning. However, students also learn to read by listening to stories. I am a First Grade teacher. My First Grade students are enthusiastic learners and love to read books. Every time there is "free" time in class, they always have a book in their hands. The students that attend my school are very needy. Many students come from a single family home and there have been an increase in English Language Leaners.
