More and more there is less chance for kids to get up and move. During the day we only have one recess and I try to incorporate movement into my teaching as much as I can. My students need the chance to move and wiggle while still learning. Having six wiggle cushions, a set of floor seats, mat and alternative places in the room to sit will help give them that chance.
Many of my students are coming from very difficult backgrounds. They come to school tired, hungry and upset from what has happened to them at home. To help them focus on learning I would like to create a corner of my room where students can go to take a break. In this area they could practice yoga, use the various requested fidget items or sit and read in a Tepee to calm themselves on those hard days.
