I have very imaginative and creative students who do not let low income get in the way of their creativity. We use a variety of media in my classroom: clay, various papers, paint, a variety of mark-making materials, textiles, found objects, natural materials, wire and other industrial-type products. They learn about art history, especially about artists who reflect the culture and experience of the students, and are encouraged to try new things. We are a Project Based Learning school, affiliated with New Tech Network, and we endeavor to prepare our scholars for 21st century problem-solving. Each quarter, we ask students to create an event to showcase their learning - many of the other classrooms use the visual and performing arts in their curriculum, making our school a very dynamic place to learn. I'm hoping to use funds to facilitate our quarterly art shows.
