The most important thing for me is that my students have an inviting and engaging classroom library. I will use the books to expand our ever growing library. Since so many of my students do not have access to books at home, I will let them borrow books to take home and encourage them read all the books in a series that interests them. I will use the chairs as a quiet reading spot to encourage sustained reading. The read aloud books will be used in whole group lessons to help students build character and a sense of community. The whiteboards will be for whole and small group phonic lessons as well as differentiated word work to help improve their reading accuracy. The headphones will be used in combination with their class laptops to allow students to listen to audio books. They will also be helpful for state testing and all of the reading and math programs that we are using. Having comfortable headphones leads to more time on task.
