This subscription to Time for Kids will help my students navigate current events and develop personal opinions while applying the skills addressed in the Common Core Standards. Students will use these magazines in small groups to identify key details, quote the text and use text evidence to support their opinions on various topics. They will use this resource to apply what we learn about Reading Informational Text and Language standards, Writing standards and Speaking and Listening standards and through writing responses and group discussions. This resource will benefit all learners including English Language Learners.
There is great value in showing kids how to learn about social issues and amazing events that directly effect them. Building interest in these areas will develop a lifelong desire to be involved in current events while in the short term students will learn grade level skills.
