Flexible seating, gives students a voice and a choice when in comes to their learning. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. I dipped my toes into flexible seating in Kindergarten as they needed more guidance because of their ages, but with an older student they know what they need to learn best and they know what the need to be successful in their own learning. Currently, in my school, students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in the classroom, such as: at different height tables, sitting under tables with a clipboard, or sitting/laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have heard about amazing differences in students when they are given a choice in their seating/learning environment. When students have a voice/choice in their learning, they are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at a desk.
When students are given a choice, they will be more successful and confident in their own learning. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The exercise balls with stands will allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The comfy floor seats and the donut seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The clipboards and book bins will give students the flexibility to keep their work with them as they work around the classroom. I hope with my future students having choices will help them be successful in their individualized learning!
