My students are eager-to-learn first graders who want to excel against all economic odds. This group of students loves to learn and participate in hands on lessons, which includes singing and dancing to songs that help them learn letter sounds, reading, math concepts, and do physical education activities, which they see as a reward, rather than a chore. Even though they attend a school where 80 percent of the students and families receive free lunch due to being low income families, my students keep a positive attitude while in class. With my class being 45 percent English Language Learners, my students enjoy lessons that have enriched vocabulary and a multitude of visual images to better help them understand what they are being taught.
