This is an inner city school in Houston, TX and most of these students families depend on public transportation, so buying reeds is a hardship on most of these families. I am more concerned with their musical education than having to give them a bad grade, because they have no reed. The musical white boards will help my students with music theory. They will learn how to identify notes and how to write notes on the staff.
It is very important to me that my students get the same music education that schools with a budget have. It is important that my students not only learn music, but learn the discipline it take to learn an instrument and to work with a group, learning team work. I would like for my students to take their music education and use it to maybe help pay for colleges by earning music scholarships to marching bands, where they don't have to be music majors. It is important for them to learn other skills that my be important in life and in the arts.
