I am fortunate to spend my days teaching history at a middle school in Elk Grove, California. My students stay with me for two years which allows me to build a community of learners that trust one another. The heart of teaching lies in the interactions between the students and their teacher. My best moments in the classroom occur when my students question me in a way that demonstrates they are truly grappling with the concepts being taught; when a student asks a question that makes ME think. Using primary sources, bringing the voices of the past alive in my classroom, allows me to model historical thinking skills with my students.
