My students live in a high poverty school district where we were recently forced to cut hands-on programs like field trips. Each child is so full of potential. The foundation they get from experiencing learning hands-on accommodates a wealth of varying learning styles that are in my class. In order to really love learning, they need to be able to manipulate their materials, practice what they learn, and even be able to teach their peers.
As a 2nd Grade in NYS, we are focused on the demands on the Common Core Curriculum. The students will be able to immerse themselves in learning while having hands-on fun. With the increasing demands, our students also need to maintain that fun and exciting element that all of us remember from school. Students need hands-on learning to keep this curiosity and motivation alive, especially those students in our district.
