I'm in my 12th year teaching 5th grade at Glenwood Elementary in a rural district. I am the grandmother to a very happy 4 year old boy who has autism. His condition has made me a better person, and a better teacher. Not only do I teach my students core subjects, I am able to teach them about people with differences and how we can make a difference in other people's lives, just by a kind word or gesture. I am so proud of my students by their hard work and compassion towards others. I get excited when they come back to see me after they move on to the upper grades, graduate, and even have kids! I know I'm making a difference because they care enough to come back to say hello!
