There is nothing quite as satisfying as putting the right book in a student's hand. This feeling grows exponentially when the most reluctant reader falls in love with a good book. For some students, this is challenging. They may not read at grade level, or they may have difficulty choosing something they are interested in.
Having a classroom library allows students to have an increased exposure to books and allows their teacher to help match them to a book they might love. I've put an emphasis in my selection on books that may be useful for classroom projects or that may capture the attention of the boys in my room.
I chose furniture and lighting options that would make the classroom library an inviting space that my students would want to spend time in. And, lastly, the subscription to Time for Kids engages my lovers on nonfiction while allowing me to teach with current materials.
