The idea of using flexible seating in the classroom has become more popular in the past few years. First graders are very active and you cannot expect 6-year-olds to stay still throughout the day when we as adults are unable to do so ourselves. Flexible seating allows students to freely move in their area instead of sitting in a standard chair all day.
We are requesting exercise balls, stools, and lap boards for students to use at their desk, at our guided reading table, and around the room as flexible seating options. The students will be allowed to choose what type of seating works best for them. These materials will allow the students to feel more comfortable when they are working, which will improve their quality of work. By providing an environment where students are given the opportunity to choose what works best for them will result in more hardworking individuals throughout the school day.
