The students I teach come mixed suburban and rural area. There is an emphasis within the arts at the district and I strive to give the students the best and most comprehensive art education possible. I feel that it is very important in a child's education that they have a place that they can go to personally express themselves. The students need an outlet and the art room is the perfect place where children can do that in a healthy non-confronting way. There is a quote by an unknown source that says, "If we removed all the art in the lives of our children there is no way that adding more math, increasing more reading, requiring more science, mandating more foreign language, or scheduling more computer classes could have replace what they would have lost." Let's allow the students to continue to have the privilege of creating colorful, vibrant, exciting artwork in the art room!
