My classroom consists of seven beautiful children who are diagnosed with Autism. More than half of my students are nonverbal, which means while they can make word approximations, they struggle to communicate with speech. These students struggle to have their needs met in their daily lives and must work extra hard to communicate what they need and want.
With these iPads I will be able to have communication apps available that allow the students to communicate through pictures to express their needs and wants. I will purchase an app called Proloquo2Go for each iPad. The students would be able to take these with them as they travel throughout the school and communicate with peers and staff. Being able to communicate is one of the most basic human needs, and having a tool available to help them with this would make their learning journey easier. These iPads would be used every day - for work time, whole/small group, center work and many more activities.
