My students come to school with a strong desire to learn and to be the best that they can be. Our school is a high poverty school in an urban district in Rhode Island. Many of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school has an increasing population of students who receive English as a Second Language services. All of my students are English Learners. My students have proficiency levels that range from students who are new to the United States to students who are ready to exit the English as a Second Language program.
Some of the most rewarding moments of my day is when a student (new to our country) is finally able to ask for a pencil, to say good morning to me, or to hold a short conversation with another student or group of students.
In order for this to happen, we need to have materials that can give them the opportunity to be successful English Language Learners.
