Our classroom is very diverse having 1st to 8th grade. The thing everyone has in common is caring about each other and about their school. Students participate in life skill classes in addition to our regular subjects. Students learn personal hygiene and self care, cooking skills, laundry, kitchen safety, cleaning, money management, and community skills.
We love hands on learning and need supplies to learn and to continue serving our school. We have a whiteboard in the classroom, but it is old, and non-functional. We regularly use repetition to practice skills so dry erase sleeves and markers will allow us to make fewer copies. Our class provides laundry service for the pre-k classes so they have clean blankets for nap time. Teachers enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and fresh baked goods from our coffee cart.
We will use cleaning supplies to practice cleaning the classroom, which includes a kitchen. We need safe equipment to be safe as we learn and practice cooking. We need pans to bake for the coffee cart we run on Fridays. Hot cups will be used to serve the coffee and gloves to learn kitchen and food sanitation and safety.
Our classroom has no windows so we do not get any sunlight. We also cannot open a window to get rid of mustiness or to just get some clean healthy fresh air. This project will provide air filtration and humidity control to keep our air clean and healthy. It will provide a light in our reading/morning meeting area that is full spectrum. We will also be able to keep the classroom clean of germs and viruses meaning healthier kids and less sickness.
