I chose non-digital brain games for this project because I think it is vital that students pull away from screens once in a while.
There are times when students are looking for things to do. Oftentimes, they choose to engage with a device. These devices can be a distraction and perhaps take attention away from other areas of focus.
I would like to have options for students that are stimulating and relevant but not digital. I especially would like to see them engage with one another and work on projects and activities which might not be too time consuming but which would be thought provoking.
I chose items that are strategic and thought provoking. Some examples are a traffic jam game which involves strategy and problem solving as well as games such as Marble Run and Abacan which involve teamwork and critical thinking.
Although the addition of the cabinet was a larger one in terms of dollars, I put that in the project because I wanted to display the games and activities attractively. I want students to be excited about these options and I was reminded of what a great job elementary teachers do at displaying in their classrooms. This cabinet will help in that regard in that students can see their options openly and clearly.
