Our school has children from 25 countries and over 14 different languages spoken in our building. My classroom is filled with many cultures and diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I choose books like Lots of Lights and Alma so that the students will be able to find themselves in the pages of the books that we read, while giving others a chance to learn something new about their classmates and things they might do differently at home.
We can use the books to build a better classroom community, foster acceptance and embrace and celebrate the cultural differences of all the students in my classroom.
