My Kindergarten students have worked so hard this year to learn to read and along the way have developed a true love for the written word! I have built a large leveled library in my classroom from which my students borrow books to take home each night and to fill their book buckets. However, I would like to be able to send each child home with 10 books this summer to read and keep. I hope to prevent the 3 months of reading loss that can occur over the summer.
Studies have shown that by allowing children to self-select books to take and read over the summer is an excellent way to keep them interested and practicing all summer. The children who took home self-selected books actually GAINED reading achievement during the summer, where as the group who did not have books experiences your typical summer reading loss. Reading over the summer fosters reading growth in our students!
Please help us grow this summer to be the best readers we can be!
Many thanks from Kindergarten!
