I am not a fan of worksheets. However, I am a HUGE fan of thinking outside the box. Last year, I dressed up like a "Vowel Bat" to teach my students short vowels. I also asked the students to create robots by reusing old junk to celebrate Earth Day. I like to make learning interactive, engaging, creative, and fun! I want my students to enjoy school and be excited to be there. I go out of my way to act silly and inspire my students to laugh, problem solve, think, and remember what they learn. My students live in a very dangerous and low socioeconomic part of town, but I don't allow them to use that as an excuse to not be successful. I always expect greatness, hold them to very high standards, and they always rise up. In the end, they end up teaching me just as much as I teach them.
