My students are amazing Kindergartners!! They come to school every day eager and ready to work hard in order to master skills that they need to build upon for academic and social success.
We learn in a flexible seating environment. That means that the students are in charge of where and how they work independently. They can sit, stand, lie down, rock, kneel, etc. There are many options available. We even have a few traditional desks and chairs for those students that wish to work the "old fashioned way". Whole group direct instruction is provided with all students (and teacher) seated in a circle on the floor.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
We learn in the very first days of school that we must persevere and even though things get tough, "We don't quit, we got grit!"
