My students are transitioning from kindergarten to first grade. They will quickly realize they are not in Kansas anymore. The first grade curriculum challenges students in reading, writing, and math in ways they were not challenged before. These materials will be used to ease their transition into first grade by providing students with engaging materials to help them master learning goals and have fun doing it. The tote bags will be used to allow students to bring their guided reading books back and forth from school and their homes safely. Being able to bring their books home build their reading skills and involves their families. The Hear Myself Phones will be used in the classroom to build reading fluency. Students will have so much fun using the phones to hear themselves reading books. While Reading fluency is important, understanding what is read is just as important. The composition books will be used for students to write about what they have read in order to build their understanding of what they read in their books. The math games will be especially meaningful for their learning since many of the skills and strategies we learn through the school year are based on basic fact fluency. With these materials students will be engaged and active participants in their learning all throughout the day!
