These new flexible seating options will allow my students more places to sit other then their desk or the carpet. Right now I only have a few options that I have bought with my own funds. Each student in 4th grade should be able to read on their reading level for at least 20 minutes without any interruptions. This is very difficult to do from a desk or on the carpet for 20 straight minutes. Imagine reading at your kitchen table or on the floor for 20 minutes!
I would love for my students to have the chance to move around in the room and find their perfect spot to read! I would use these chairs and pillow for independent reading time and allow the students to choose where to sit. We will have a system in place for taking turns so each students gets a chance to use the bean bag chair and the giant pillow.
The more they have a chance to dive into a book in their comfort zone, the chance is they will want to read more!! I don't just teach students to read; I also want them to find a passion to want to read!!
