Children today develop a fear of mathematics before they even have any exposure to it. True math is not boring or scary, it is beautiful. Each manipulative that I have selected will be used in a particular unit throughout the year in order to help students truly learn the concepts of mathematics, rather than simply memorize formulas and facts. These materials will make a difference in my student's learning because they will make math a more personal, relatable experience! Math manipulatives make learning tangible and help students to engage in sense-making. It was Paul Halmos, a Hungarian-American mathematician, that said "The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics."
