Mentor texts provide students opportunities to study and imitate different types of texts: books, poems, songs, news articles, comics, essays. They scaffold instruction and help students take risks and try out new skills and new strategies
With your help, we will be able to provide a variety of mentor texts to a classroom full of all different types of student learners. Jennifer Serravallo's 2nd and 3rd grade reading and writing mentor texts will allow my students to interact with texts closer to their instructional reading level while working on the same skills as their same-aged peers.
We will be able to use these texts during parallel instruction, small-group instruction, and student-led stations. We will also be able to share these instructional materials with our 4th grade team, as well as our special education department, so that we can provide support to even more students.
