My students work hard in the classroom everyday, but need structured play supplies to help during indoor and outdoor recess. This will help them learn how to play with each other in a way that allows them to solve problems without fighting. These supplies will also help my students create a sense of community and teamwork that will follow them into the classroom. Students will be able to take what they learn during recess home and teach siblings how to play games and sports, be a team and be okay with winning or losing.
Also, my students struggle with having structured free time in school during indoor recess. With structured games, students will learn more skills about teamwork and community outside of physical sports.
With these supplies, the possibilities are endless! I plan on building student self-confidence and teamwork skills through relay races, sporting events, problem solving and critical thinking skills. I will connect the time we use these active play supplies to our learning in Math, Science and Reading through sight words and math facts. We can use the footballs, basketballs and kick balls to increase math fluency in addition with different point values in each activity finished.
