Children need to move. Having flexible seating in my classroom will help even my most energetic students to stay focused and alert by allowing them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand while learning. I am requesting wobble chairs, bean bags, and floor seats as well as organization book bins and a game library. Comfortable students are engaged students. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and encourages them to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Currently, I have students working in all areas of our room to find a comfortable spot to get work done. I have students laying on the floor using whiteboards as a slate, sitting in the reading corner against pillows, or asking to sit in my swiveling office chair. Many students request to sit in the office chair, the only problem is- I only have one. The items I have included on my list would allow me to provide my students with more options when it comes to seating and getting comfortable.
