These caps and gowns will give my little friends a feeling of pride and accomplishment for all the work they have done this year! When their families come to see them "graduate", I want them to look and feel just as special as I know they are. These caps and gowns will be used not only by my class, but the two Developmentally Delayed Prek classes at my school. These classes include children with many different disabilities including autism, physical impairments, cognitive disabilities, speech/language impairments, Down's Syndrome, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, visual and hearing impaired. These caps and gowns will be stored at school and used for many future classes as well.
Statistically speaking, this might be the only graduation ceremony that these students will ever participate in. The high school graduation rate for African American, low-income students is 64%. Together, we have the power to change that. They are already on their way to success by attending a high-quality Preschool program, which increases their chances of graduating high school and college, and becoming contributing members of society. Thank you for helping them continue to love school!
