Our school has an amazing campus with a great variety of instruments and musical opportunities for the students here. However, I feel that adding a percussion ensemble to the mix of what we do here could give even more of our students a place to express their creativity. We currently have several Orff instruments and tons of percussion accessories available for our use.
I don't want these students to have a disadvantage when they get into middle school and want to audition for the percussion class. If I were able to instill some basic percussion fundamentals into our rehearsals, their musicality would get the chance to flourish. We would also be able to add percussion showcases to our musicals and choir performances! Percussion ensembles are so much fun for students; they could take what these tools would help them learn and apply it to many different areas (rhythm, working as a team, taking care of materials, working hard to accomplish a goal.)
This is an investment that would pay off for years to come.
