I am a Dual Language Immersion fourth grade teacher. My Spanish-speaking teaching partner and I have the joy of educating forty-six bilingual students together. Each day, our students collaborate, learn, create, and play in both English and Spanish. They spend half the day participating in Math and English Language Arts instruction with me, and the other half of the day participating in Science and Spanish Language Arts instruction with my partner.
Our students still have their sense of wonder. Every day their curiosities excite me. It is inspiring to watch them acquire biliteracy and grow their content knowledge.
In both their academic and personal lives our students show grit and perseverance. Many are affected by poverty and low family incomes, and some have special learning needs. We are proud to be a part of a school that celebrates multilingualism and cognitive diversity.
