Many students have trouble sitting still in school. They often shift their bodies, get out of their seats, sit on their feet, and disrupt class. Many times, they cannot help this behavior. Flexible seating options help students to have more choices about how and where they sit to learn. This chance to have a voice in the process of their learning will help them to feel more comfortable and in control of themselves. This will build their self-confidence. Research shows having more seating options can make a huge impact on student achievement in the right environment. My classroom is the right place.
I want to give my students every opportunity I possibly can to help them to reach their maximum potential. Imagine a classroom filled with bright, gifted learners sitting on the floor on a rug holding clipboards while writing a composition, or students all sitting at a short table in rockers so students can move their bodies while still participating in a group discussion, or even kids reading on a couch or in bean bag chairs all curled up and engaged in a literature circle.
This grant will help me create this amazing learning environment for my classroom and my students.
