To start with, I only have one teacher set of fraction strips for my classroom. In 5th grade one HUGE unit is all about fractions. With some students who still need those manipulative pieces, it has been difficult to work with just one set. Students will use the requested Learning Resources Magnetic Rainbow Fraction Tiles for hands-on fraction learning.
We also do a large semester long project in which the students get to create and publish their own book. They always take such great pride in the books but ink prices have gone up so much that printing each book in color has become costly. In order to let my students print their books in color, I have to find a way to fund the ink used for them. Otherwise, I will only be able to print in black and white, or I will have to make the students pay to print in color. I'm requesting HP black ink cartridges for our books.
Giving them Expo dry erase markers, Crayola markers, and Sharpie highlighters will help them with skills to express their findings or gather research. They won't be expected to bring their own or share with a partner.
The incentive charts will be used in the classroom to help keep track of goal setting. Setting goals is a big deal in our district. This will help the student see an end in mind when it comes to their goals. The Energizer batteries will be used to power our flip cameras during projects. The students love using the donated cameras. Keeping them filled with batteries is sometimes an expensive duty. Materials and supplies will be organized and stored in the craft cabinet and desk organizer.
These supplies will help this class not only build their foundational skills, but they will also help enrich those skills to take them to the next level.
