I am a Speech-Language Pathologist working in a Title 1 school. Over 80% of the students receive Free and Reduced lunch and ----% are English language learners. I work with students who have communication disorders in one or more areas (oral language, speech-sound production, speaking fluency, and/or social language skills). Since almost all academic learning depends on verbal communication, many of my students have difficulty making sense of lessons and completing assignments at their grade-level. Additionally, oral language is essential for learning to read and write. Many students have difficulty contributing to classroom discussions and asking appropriate questions to enhance their learning. Successful use of language is critical for students' ability to engage in their classroom and communities. My goal is to work every day to use communication as a way for students to understand and engage in their worlds.
