My class is a self-contained early childhood deaf education classroom. I serve students from age 3 through the end of Kindergarten. I teach using American Sign Language and English.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have differing hearing and language needs, but all of them require a small class, individualized instruction, and intensive language interventions.
While I expect my students to be able to learn what their hearing peers are learning, deaf education looks a little different from a general education setting. This means that while we teach the same concepts, we teach them differently so that all of our students can learn, no matter their special needs.
We work hard in our class to make sure that when students leave they have a strong language foundation in ASL, English, or both.
