Our school is in a high poverty area where students have grown up with many hardships. These 5th graders know though, my classroom is a safe place for them to be. Each one of them is a caring student who holds high values of respect and responsibility. All my students are very enthusiastic to learn and grow their minds for their futures! At the beginning of the year, I asked my students what their goals were and what they needed from me as their teacher. The results surprised me. Most of my students were eager to gain reading skills and learn as much as they can. My school started a new reading curriculum this year that my students are loving. Now my job is to teach these students the best I can. Hands shoot up when I ask questions and they are engaged.
